From a homeowner’s point of view, contracting for a custom built home can be unsettling at best, and agonizing if the project is not run correctly. When we built our home in Texas, we took the contractor’s word about his experience and ability. Although we were close at hand to see daily events, it was at times a traumatic experience trying to keep the contractor on track. Years later, contracting for a homebuilder in Crested Butte, we realized we would be absent most of the time construction was in progress. This time we looked around for the best builder we could find.

Bob Huckins was highly recommended to us, but that recommendation was grossly understated. Throughout construction, besides keeping us abreast of the progress, Bob continually consulted us at various stages with respect to trims, finishes, colors, fixtures, etc. His suggestions to improve the appearance and functionality of certain features were well thought out and became marked improvements. Without Bob’s experience and craftsmanship, the finished house could have been a disappointment.

Going above and beyond the normal duties of a builder, Bob was tenacious and unrelenting in his efforts on our behalf to resolve a couple of local ordinances and especially in negotiating a crucial relocation of the entry easement. Even after the completion and certificate of occupancy, he continued to be available to address the little items that crop up after construction is over.

Our house exceeded our expectations in all regards and words cannot convey the extent of the high regard we have for Bob.

Building a house is a huge undertaking, financially and emotionally draining and involving a lot of very hard work. The pleasure we experienced during the building of our Crested Butte home and the joy and thrill of having a dream come true is solely due to Bob's conscientiousness and talent. His tenacity at solving problems is heroic - he will go the extra ten miles to save the day. Thanks to Bob, we have our treasure in the glorious mountains and a good friend to boot.

Bob Huckins completed the building of my home in Prospect in 2008 after two years of construction. Every day of the project, I felt that the building process was being managed with integrity, expertise, and the utmost attention to detail.

Not only was Bob fully committed to these principles, his entire crew reflected the same diligence. “Diligence,” meaning “working with great care,” personifies Bob's management. He listened to every word I said regarding what I wanted, and he treated my wishes with respect. In the event that he questioned whether I was aware of the options, he would explain them with a willingness to abide by what I decided. Bob was also careful about his budget, and kept me fully informed all along the way.

I had trusted and respected Bob before we began the project, but at the end of it I was thrilled that he and his work went way beyond my expectations. His quality of work speaks for itself, but the relationship remains very special. Every day, when I am in the house, I am thankful for the man who built it with such care. He has been, and remains, a blessing to me.
